读完了「Horse」by Geraldine Brooks
这本书断断续续看了得有三四个月,一来是因为自己懒了,二来平常也得学习,kindle的读书乐趣也就耽搁下来了。过往时间倒是用来刷小红书,内心竟没有浪费时间的感觉,看来到了一定年纪,整啥不是整,让自己忙起来就成。
这本书起伏跌宕不多,用一匹叫Lexington的马做引子,串起了美独立战争时候一名奴隶和当今一名善良黑哥们的遭遇。先以马骨的研究,引出了故事男女主Theo和Jess,两人因对艺术的追求,走在了一起。男主不小心在街边捡回一张画,画里的马居然和Jess正在研究的骨头是同一匹。然后就牵出了独立战争时候这名叫Jarret奴隶的境遇。说实话,境遇不差,从马出生,到马临终,Jarret作为马痴,以奴隶身份居然也能全程陪下来,中间生生换了几名主人。很难得,最后一波碰上马匪,力挽狂澜似地帮主人拯救下所有的马匹,获得主人信任后,得以自由身退。而Theo因为对画的研究,牵出了画家和中间经手的故事,最后还能确认到街边这幅画的拍卖价值,难能可贵的是,愿意把画还给丢弃的原主人。很善良的黑哥们。结尾时候,和女主一起做了个晚饭,看天色还早,出去跑了个部,雨天就全身黑黑地跑,碰到另一名失足落下ridge的白人🏃♀️,也没多想就滑下去救援,然后👮♂️出现,带他领了便当。。。(看到这里,我得说一句,我就知道),因为故事写得太温馨了。
于是很讽刺的,旧社会的黑哥们在加拿大获得重生,新社会的黑哥们死于police brutality。
